What Will You Learn?

  • This phase is tailored to matriculants and those who are no longer in school and need a practical, skills-oriented program to enhance their employability and digital literacy.
  • The course covers basic computer operations, email communication, office applications, and introductory coding (Scratch/Python).
  • Emphasis is placed on life skills (CV writing, interview prep), collaborative projects, and hands-on robotics (micro: bit or Arduino).
  • By the end, learners develop a digital portfolio showcasing their new competencies, paving the way for job opportunities or further education.

Course Curriculum

Orientation
Overview of the course and how to attend classes.

  • Introduction to Coding and Robotics

Module 1: Digital Literacy & Introductory Coding (Weeks 1–18)
Module 1 (Weeks 1–18): Professional Digital Literacy & Citizenship o Content:  Computer fundamentals, digital ethics, and professional communication.  Data representation using word processing/spreadsheets and PowerPoint and the scientific process in problem solving and report writing.  Comprehensive e-communication principles and practices, detailed by: Cyber threats, Viruses and malware, security and authentication, social media, Big Data and data processing techniques. Advanced computational and pattern recognition training tailored for industry readiness.o Assessments:  Tests on digital literacy and professional computing skills.

Module 2: Navigating the Digital World
Show learners how to use the internet safely, create an email account, and explore essential online resources. Focus Areas: Browsing Basics (search engines, opening links) Email Setup & Etiquette Online Safety (phishing, scams)

Module 3: Visual Coding Fundamentals
Use block-based coding platforms (ScratchJr, Scratch, or Code.org) to introduce logical thinking. Focus Areas: Drag-and-Drop Blocks (movement, simple loops) Creating Basic Animations or Games Encouraging Creative Expression

Module 4: Simple Robotics Exploration
If resources allow, introduce low-cost robotics kits or micro:bit for hands-on activities. Focus Areas: Connecting a Micro:bit (or similar device) Displaying Simple Patterns or Messages Group/Partner Projects to Build Confidence

Module 5: Life Skills & Next Steps
Integrate basic life skills like communication, teamwork, and next-step planning. Focus Areas: Personal Growth & Confidence-Building Setting Goals for Further Education or Employment Celebrating Achievements & Certificate of Completion
